Public Transport London Information

London is famous for being a difficult city to navigate in a car, and many people choose to travel via public transport as it is quicker, cheaper and more convenient.

Buses

London buses are operated by a variety of independent bus companies that are regulated by the 'Transport for London" governing body. Night Buses operate to and from Trafalgar Square allowing travel round the capital after the tube closes for the night. Tickets have to purchased prior to boarding the bus for a flat rate fare dependent on whether you are travelling in inner or outer London. The alternative is to purchase a book of saver tickets can be purchased from post offices and participating newsagents.

Underground railway (Tube)

The London Underground railway system has been transporting passengers around London since its completion in 1863 and was the first working system of its kind in the world.
By acquiring a one- day travelcard at an underground station allows you to travel around London all day by bus or tube for a flat rate fare. London has a total of 175 stations covering 253 miles of railway, so no one should have too much trouble getting from A to B in Central London.

London Underground has an information website and allows for online journey planning. Click here for more information

Over-ground Trains

Areas outside the range of the underground network are reached via over-ground railway systems. Areas within the correct zone can be reached using the same travelcard you would use on the underground. It is always best to check at the station before setting off to confirm that your journey is within the zones. Most stations operate using a barrier pass system, and you may find yourself trapped in a station if you have underpaid!
